
Meet Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo who led his team to its first championship in 50 years.
Giannis Antetokounmpo was born on December 6th, 1994, in Athens Greece, to Nigerian immigrants Charles and Veronica Antetokounmpo . His parents arrived in the country without legal status in search of better employment opportunities. Charles and Veronica Antetokounmpo raised their four sons to become talented basketball players. His eldest brother, Francis, was the only person to not be born in Greece.

Their father, Charles, passed away unexpectedly in 2017 at his home in Milwaukee. He suffered a heart attack, out of the blue, at the age of 54. Now the family carries his name with them at every turn.

His brother Athanasios Rotimi “Thanasis” Antetokounmpo plays for the Milwaukee Bucks.Konstantinos Ndubuisi “Kostas” Antetokounmpo is also professional basketball player for LDLC ASVEL of the French Betclic Élite and the Euroleague

Giannis Antetokounmpo started playing basketball game for the youth teams of Filathlitikos in Athens. Before going to play in the 2013 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft he played for the club’s senior team, in the match where he was 15th overall selection by the Milwaukee Bucks. Giannis Antetokounmpo due to his speed, timing and very interesting skills of handling ball has earned a nick name “Greek Freak”. In the year from 2016 to 2017 he was the one who led Milwaukee Bucks in all the five major statistical categories and after that Giannis Antetokounmpo became the first NBA player who finish the regular season in the top 20 in all five statistics of total points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. He is that player who was awarded with the most improved player in 2017. He was the only player after Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon to win MVP and NBA Defensive Player of the Year in the same season.
