Diop was a key part of the Senegal side that reached the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup. He grabbed the winner as Senegal shocked the world with a 1-0 victory over France in the tournament’s opening game and finished as his country’s top-scorer.

Diop played for four English and spent the best part of a decade of his career in England, joining Fulham from RC Lens in 2004 and making 84 appearances for the club.
